🎭 Art
Estonia's premier contemporary art biennial is back for its 8th edition, running September 5–October 31, 2025. This year's program explores photography's evolving role in our image-saturated world through three distinct exhibitions across Tallinn.
Highlights include a compelling intergenerational dialogue between Estonian artists Tanja Muravskaja and Sirje Runge at Kai Art Center, examining fragility as both concept and material. The biennial also features innovative public art installations that transform photography into sculptural interventions in urban space, and more. Click here to learn more
🗼 Lighthouse
Tallinn's upper lighthouse in Lasnamäe will welcome visitors starting in July. Standing 80 meters above sea level, the lighthouse offers spectacular views of both the Baltic Sea and Tallinn's Old Town after climbing its 182 spiral steps.
The lighthouse has guided sailors safely into Tallinn Bay for over 150 years, operating continuously from 1858 until 2008. Meanwhile, ambitious plans are underway to transform the lower lighthouse near Kumu into a comprehensive destination featuring a museum, restaurant, and hotel by 2027. Click here to learn more
🌧️ Midsummer
Estonia's traditional Midsummer festivities on June 23-24 are likely to be dampened by rain, according to chief meteorologist from the Estonian Environment Agency. While temperatures might reach a pleasant 25-26°C on Midsummer Eve, solid rain is forecast to arrive during the holiday period.
She notes that hot Midsummers over 25°C have been relatively rare, with memorable warm celebrations in 2020 and 2021, while other years have seen temperatures as low as 7-8°C with heavy rain. Click here to learn more
🏥 Support
While most of Estonia celebrates the extended Midsummer holiday period, essential healthcare and support services continue operating to ensure public safety and wellbeing. Tallinn's hospital emergency departments and ambulance services maintain their 24/7 operations, while two 24-hour pharmacies remain open throughout the holidays. The nationwide family doctor hotline (634 6630 or 1220) continues providing round-the-clock consultation, and emergency services can always be reached at 112.
Recognizing that holidays can be challenging for mental health, comprehensive psychological support remains accessible. Most services are available in Estonian, Russian, and English, ensuring no one faces crisis alone during the celebrations. Click here to learn more
👶 Kindergarten
A political standoff is brewing in Tallinn as the city's coalition partners clash over kindergarten fees. Three parties—Social Democrats (SDE), Isamaa, and Eesti 200—have proposed a compromise to reduce monthly kindergarten fees from €50 to €35 starting September 1, marking the second reduction by the current government after initially lowering fees from €70 in April.
However, the Reform Party remains committed to completely eliminating kindergarten fees, rejecting the compromise as insufficient. Click here to learn more
💊 Nato
Estonia will host NATO's largest military medicine exercise next year, with up to 2,500 military personnel expected to participate in "Vigorous Warrior 2026." The biennial exercise, organized by Hungary's Centre of Excellence for Military Medicine, is NATO's only training specifically focused on military medical operations.
The exercise will bring together military medical units and Estonian civilian agencies including the Health Board, Ministry of Social Affairs, ambulance services, and hospitals. Estonia was selected due to its strategic geopolitical position, with planning already underway following this week's conference in Tallinn attended by representatives from 29 countries.
