🗞️ News For You
♻️ Renewable
Estonia is quietly backing away from its legally mandated goal to generate 100% renewable electricity by 2030, just three years after the ambitious target became law. Prime Minister Kristen Michal now admits the goal is "not realistic" and may only be achievable by 2033-2035. Currently generating 42% of electricity from renewables, Estonia faces significant hurdles including shelved offshore wind projects that would cost up to €2.6 billion in subsidies. 🪓 Sport
Estonia has opened the world's largest permanent axe throwing complex in Mäetaguse, Ida-Viru County, featuring an impressive 24 lanes across indoor and outdoor facilities. The center, expanded with €61,000 in EU Just Transition Fund support, now boasts 12 indoor lanes plus a new outdoor arena with another dozen lanes. Click here to learn more
🏆 Champion
Estonian multi-event athlete Pippi Lotta Enok has claimed her second NCAA heptathlon title, scoring 6,285 points at the US collegiate championships while representing the University of Oklahoma. Her performance broke the Estonian national record by five points, surpassing Grit Šadeiko's mark that had stood since 2017. Click here to learn more
🌊 Beach
Estonia's official swimming season has begun, with 56 designated beaches and swim spots open from June 1 through August 31. The Health Board regularly tests water quality at all official beaches, checking for bacteria levels, trash, oil slicks, and harmful algae blooms. Swimming outside designated areas remains at your own risk, with health experts advising to watch for warning signs like murky water, debris, oil patches, or unpleasant odors before taking a dip. ⚠️ Evacuation
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have signed a memorandum to develop joint mass evacuation plans and strengthen cross-border cooperation. The interior ministers committed to sharing data on evacuation capacities, corridors, and border crossings while ensuring coordinated responses during large-scale evacuations. The initiative emphasizes protecting vulnerable populations and follows Estonia's recent exercises/tests since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This builds on previous Baltic crisis management agreements as the region enhances security cooperation. Click here to learn more
🌳 Public Space
Tallinn has transformed Aia Street into a vibrant green public space for summer, featuring trees, shrubs, and dedicated areas for leisure and play alongside the historic Old Town. The city installed reused street furniture including tables and benches, plus board games for public enjoyment.
The street now showcases not just ornamental plants and flowers, but also herbs, berry bushes, and other edible garden plants. Traffic has been made temporarily one-way while maintaining 12 parking spaces, with planters narrowing the roadway to create more pedestrian space. Click here to learn more
🖥️ Cybersecurity
The sixth Tallinn Summer School of Cyber Diplomacy brings together diplomats and experts from over 40 countries in June 2025. The program focuses on cybersecurity, digital governance, and addressing cyber threats and AI's strategic impact.

Co-organized by Estonia's Foreign Ministry and supported by the European Commission, the event promotes international cooperation in creating a secure, open cyberspace. Click here to learn more
🚊 Museum
A one-of-a-kind MEV-1 switcher locomotive has arrived at the Haapsalu Railway and Communications Museum. What makes this locomotive special is that it was entirely rebuilt by Estonians from a motor car in the mid-1990s - the first such project in reindependent Estonia and the only one of its kind in the world. The switcher was used for depot switching operations until 2013 when old electric train operations ended. Click here to learn more
