🤖 Technology
The Estonian University of Life Sciences and Baltic Agro have acquired the country's first autonomous field robot, an unmanned tractor capable of mowing, sowing, and fertilizing independently. This smart machine can tow all types of farm equipment and perform comprehensive agricultural tasks without human operators. Additionally, University of Tartu computer science students have developed an AI-powered grain sorting system that uses cameras to evaluate grain cleanliness and separate contaminated parts, replacing labor-intensive manual work. 🚎 Bus Station
The North Estonia Public Transport Center has decided to reduce daily bus departures from Tallinn's Balti Station from 450 to 250 starting August 1, following the closure of the county bus parking area to make room for children's sports infrastructure. Deputy Mayor clarified that the city never planned to completely shut down the mobility hub, but the reduction will eliminate several near-empty routes while maintaining services based on ridership data. 🚍 Public Transport
Tallinn's public transport ridership has surged 7% over the past six months following the second phase of route modernization that began in October 2024. The reorganization of several bus lines has proved so successful that larger articulated buses have been deployed on popular routes like Bus 40, which previously operated only short buses but now requires standard buses for just a few departures due to high passenger demand. 🅿️ Parking
Tallinn has developed new guidelines that would significantly reduce parking space requirements for new and renovated buildings, allowing the city to preserve crucial green areas that help prevent urban heat islands and manage stormwater. Under the proposed rules, buildings expanded by up to 33% would not need additional parking spaces, with exceptions also granted for properties with good public transport access, nearby schools or kindergartens, or available parking garages.
