Estonia's remote Ruhnu island is working towards becoming completely powered by renewable energy by 2030 as part of a European Union initiative. The transition would involve expanding wind energy capacity and improving energy storage systems to harness power during sunny and windy periods for use when conditions are less favorable. Estonia's police are taking a unique approach to road safety by handing out postcards from Death herself to celebrate good drivers. The campaign, launched by the Police and Border Guard Board, features postcards showing Death on vacation in Paris and Hawaii with the message "Give Death a day off, drive safely!" Officers pull over exemplary drivers and reward them with these themed postcards and stickers instead of fines. This comes as Estonia faces rising road fatalities, with deaths increasing from 59 in 2020 to 70 in 2024. Click here to learn more

🎫 Public Transport

Estonia is developing a unified national ticketing system called MaaS X-tee that will integrate all forms of public transport into one platform by the end of 2026. The system will allow passengers to plan routes and purchase tickets for buses, trains, trams, ferries, aviation, and even rental cars and e-scooters from a single app, similar to how Google Maps works for navigation.
